The YMCA building has been designed sympathetically to its location along The Broadway and its purpose as the YMCA centre. The building mass has been broken into 3 parts reflecting the orders and height of other buildings along The Broadway. The elevations were then divided up into a grid. We decided to break this grid on the ground and first floor using glazing and arches, welcoming and drawing residents and users into the space. The final elevation prioritises function, elegance and rhythm, standing out as a landmark yet fitting into the landscape of Wimbledon town centre.
Floor plansThere will be up to 24 en-suite bedrooms per floor, with communal kitchens for every six to eight bedrooms. The new YMCA will have an attractive lobby and new improved amenities and community facilities.
